Ajax Cape Town is a professional club with a Youth Academy of the highest international standards with squads from Under-12 through to the Young Ajax/Under-19 team. Each year the 1st Touch Programme is used to find the most talented Under-11 players that can join the Ajax Under-12 team for the following season.
There have been unfortunate events of continuous fraudulent activity with promises being made to young players of the possibility to attend trials at Ajax Cape Town’s Youth Academy for a certain fee.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WOULD WE ASK FOR MONEY FROM ANYONE TO COME ON A TRIAL AT OUR YOUTH ACADEMY.
In total over 150 boys in 16 centres across Cape Town are scouted as talented players and invited for a weekly training session in the area closest to where they live. This can happen through one of two ways-
1) by being scouted in a club or school match or
2) attending the open trials specifically for the prescribed age groups
Information about the open trials is released on the Ajax website and through various media outlets.
We believe all the boys who participate in the 1st Touch benefit hugely from the high standard set for our sessions, as well as the opportunity to practice with the best players in their region.
After a four-month training period, groups are selected and divided into teams that compete in the Under-11 Ikamva Cup. At the end of the tournament the selection is again narrowed before 14 players are finally offered a place in the new Under- 12 team.
