Spurs drop two points at home

Cape Town Spurs endured another frustrating afternoon at Cape Town Stadium as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Steenberg United in a 2020-21 GladAfrica Championship match on Sunday.
Spurs finally found the game’s opener in the second minute of first-half stoppage-time. The Steenberg goalkeeper could only succeed in palming Igor de Oliveira’s attempt straight into the path of Riyaaz Koopstadt who provided a neat finish to give the Urban Warriors the lead at the break.
On a controversial note, Steenberg pulled level in the 55th minute after being awarded a penalty kick following a string of contentious decisions in the visitors’ favour.
Spurs pushed for the winning goal and conjured chances through Ashley Cupido and Khaya Mfecane late on but neither could hit the target from close range. In the end, Ian Taylor’s troops dropped two valuable points in the Mother City.

Cape Town Spurs: Johnson; Stander, Da Silva, Sibande, Johannes, Koopstadt, Dias (Mfecane 52′), De Oliveira (Cupido 77′), Losper, Butsaka (Mosiatlhaga 65′), Batista.
Yellow cards: Johannes, Da Silva
Goal: Koopstadt
