Spurs end Venda trip on a high
Cape Town Spurs earned a hard-fought 1-0 win against Black Leopards in the Motsepe Foundation Championship on Saturday afternoon, ending their trip to Venda on a high.
Leopards hosted the Urban Warriors at the Malamulele Stadium this weekend, as coach Shaun Bartlett and his charges claimed three vital points on the road.
The first-half got off to a slow start for both teams, however, Spurs edged Leopards in the possession count. In making way through the Leopards half, the Urban Warriors penned the hosts back during the early stages of the match.
As the first 45 came to a close, Leopards increased the intensity of their attacks, however, the Urban Warriors did enough to go into the break unscathed. In search of a goal, Spurs began the second-half on a positive note and mounted the pressure on the home team. The Urban Warriors’ thrusting attacks paid off just before the hour mark as Micheal Morton found Colin Ryan with a pin-point cross inside the area who headed home to give his team the lead.
Spurs recorded a number of attempts at goal as the clock wined down, with Boitumelo Radiopane missing arguably the chance of the match. Following a one-two move in the opposition box, Radiopane’s effort inside the six-yard area went narrowly wide of the goal.
That said, Ryan’s effort was enough for Spurs to end their Venda trip on a high, following the 1-0 defeat to TTM last week.
