Middendorp’s remarks on Sundowns result

Cape Town Spurs head coach Ernst Middendorp has given his observation following the result against Mamelodi Sundowns earlier this week.

The Urban Warriors lost narrowly to the league leaders with a 1-0 scoreline at the Athlone Stadium, from a penalty scored by Lucas Ribeiro.

Expressing disappointment over the result, Middendorp said he’s a professional and is keeping a positive outlook despite what took place.

“We had opportunities to score, we had opportunities to make it happen but that’s part of the game,” Middendorp said.

“From the result, as I said it was not really what we were expecting from the performance side with the new set up. And just having two training sessions to implement it.”

He went on to say that Spurs produced good quality in the match despite chasing their opponent’s lead in the game, the coach was satisfied with the players keeping their shape on the pitch regardless.

The team’s initial starting line-up had seven players under the age of 21, and Middendorp was impressed with how the young players performed.

Cape Town Spurs’ next match in the DStv Premiership will be against 15th placed Richards Bay FC on 26 April.

It will be a crucial match for the team to get three points to increase their chances of earning a spot in the play offs to stay in the league.
