Middendorp highlights what went wrong against Rise and Shine
Following Cape Town Spurs’ heartbreaking loss to Polokwane City in the DStv Premiership on Tuesday, head coach Ernst Middendorp has given his thoughts on what transpired during the game.
He started off by saying that he doesn’t know how to explain what took place in the right words but he thinks the team had an overall decent performance, it was just unfortunate that they conceded in the critical phase of the match.
“The bigger issue is definitely our entrance into the final third over weeks now, over months,” said Middendorp.
“We are not getting it really into the certain direction as we want.”
Just before the team conceded, the coach noted that Ashley Cupido and Gadiel Michael did well from an attacking perspective.
But it’s sometimes the decision making that makes it difficult for the team to defend when their opponents charge for goal.
The result on Tuesday meant that Spurs are now eight points behind Richards Bay, and with a few games to go, it seems unlikely that they’ll avoid relegation.
“With four games to go, we can sit here now and fight, fight, fight but I don’t think that Richards Bay is so stupid not to pick up one point anymore at all. It will not happen,” Middendorp stated frankly.
“That’s the situation that we are in.”
