Urban Warriors keep the faith despite unfortunate circumstances

Cape Town Spurs’ relegation from the DStv Premiership was confirmed on Saturday evening, following Richards Bay’s win against Orlando Pirates.

The Urban Warriors gave it all they had until the end, even playing to a goalless draw against SuperSport United on Friday. The team did well not to concede as they were a man down after Gadiel Michael Kamagi was sent off.

Before the match against SuperSport, it was understood that Spurs’ fate no longer was in their own hands, and coach Ernst Middendorp urged the players to enjoy the remaining games of the season.

Spurs were promoted to the DStv Premiership through the play-offs last season, and will leave the top-flight after just one season but their perseverance will push them through to navigate this difficult period.

Too much damage might have been done by the time that the team started picking up a good run of results, but their work won’t be in vain if the experience is used as a stepping stone to do better.

Middendorp would always give the comment of needing to be “realistic”, however, it’s clear that the coach believed in the players to the very end and everyone in the club should be proud of the journey this season.
