Spurs triumph over Venda in Nedbank Cup thriller

Cape Town Spurs continued their recent form improvement by defeating Venda Football Club 3-1 in the Nedbank Cup at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.

The victory secured the Urban Warriors a spot in the tournament’s Round of 16, showcasing their resilience after a challenging start to the Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

The match began cautiously, with Spurs gradually building pressure and dominating the attacking space.

Keenan Bezuidenhout opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a powerful strike from Jarrod Moroole’s pass. Asanele Velebayi created additional threats with dangerous crosses.

Moroole extended the lead with a well-placed header just before halftime, giving Spurs a comfortable 2-0 advantage.

In the second half, Therlo Moosa added a third goal in the 65th minute, taking advantage of a Velebayi cross.

Venda managed a consolation penalty through substitute Rotondwa Mutsivhuli in the 75th minute, but Spurs held firm to secure the win.

The result extends Cape Town Spurs’ unbeaten streak to three matches across all competitions, signaling a positive turn in the team’s performance.
