Spurs fight back to hold high-flying Kruger United 1-1
Cape Town Spurs claimed a vital point in their Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign, holding high-flying Kruger United 1-1 at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Urban Warriors looked on course for a home defeat when United’s Thulani Ndlela put the visitors ahead midway through the first half.
It was a lead the Mpumalanga-based team held for almost an hour of play, until Spurs were able to hit back in the 81st minute of the match. Khaya Mfecane netted from close range after the Urban Warriors’ relentless attacking pressure in the late stages finally paid off.
The result sees Spurs remain in 15th place on the MFC log, now with 23 points from as many matches. They have drawn level on points with 14th-placed Venda FC, though the latter club now has a game in hand.
Spurs will be back in Motsepe Foundation Championship action when they host Leruma United at Athlone Stadium on the evening of Friday, 4 April.
