Baartman’s Amajita set for camps ahead of World Cup
South Africa’s U20 team will hold camps ahead of the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup, which is set to take place in Chile.
Amajita have been drawn in Group E alongside the USA, France, and New Caledonia in the global tournament, which is scheduled for between 27 September and 19 October.
Cape Town Spurs starlet Luke Baartman was included in Raymond Mdaka’s preliminary 30-man squad for the 2025 U20 AFCON in Egypt, but could not make it to camp for preparatory friendly matches against Botswana due to injury in March.
However, the 18-year-old attacker has since recovered from the injury and he turned out for Spurs in the business end of the recent Motsepe Foundation Championship season, scoring against Hungry Lions and Pretoria Callies.
“Once we are back home [from Chile], possibly around next week, we’ll have a technical meeting, and that will assist just in saying who we are playing and how we can prepare in terms of friendlies and the camps, etc,” Amajita head coach Mdaka said on SABC Sport.
Baartman has two South Africa U20 caps, having helped his nation secure a 3-1 win and a 4-0 victory over their Lesotho counterparts in friendly matches in August 2024.
