Muhsin Ertugral proud of Urban Warriors’ fighting spirit

Ajax Cape Town head coach Muhsin Ertugral reserved special praise for his troops defensive organisation and fighting spirit following the club’s 1-0 Absa Premiership win over Bidvest Wits at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Yannick Zakri scored the only goal of the game for the hosts who were made to absorb large amounts of pressure for most of the clash.

Ertugral was especially pleased by his players desire and energy throughout the encounter, which secured a much needed victory for the club.

“I think the boys did marvelously to block the zones and half spaces, which Wits tried to exploit,” said Ertugral. “We then closed the right side, where their danger was coming from, and the game was completely done – Wits couldn’t come at us, they didn’t have any more solutions.

Ertugral continued. “All in all, from the organisation and the way we wanted to play and how we wanted to execute our plans, we did it, but the best part was the energy the boys had today [Wednesday]. In the last 15 minutes I told Yannick to give everything he had, as I wanted to take him off, but he said, ‘No, no, no, I want to score one more!’

“The players really wanted it, and that is what I really appreciated. It’s not a beauty contest, but about giving everything.”

Next up for Ajax Cape Town is an equally important away fixture against Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth this Sunday. Kick-off is at 15h00 CAT.
