Bartlett: Spurs determined to play a role in title race

Shaun Bartlett is eager to begin the rebuilding process for next season by beating Richards Bay this weekend to finish the GladAfrica Championship campaign on a high.

Cape Town Spurs travel to Durban looking to play spoiler once more in the title race after denting University of Pretoria’s prospects of gaining automatic promotion with a 2-2 draw last weekend.

The coach had set himself a mandate of building the club up for a return to the top tier of South African football when he took charge at Ikamva in October.

He’s determined to make that a reality next term by mounting a serious title challenge with a few tweaks to the Urban Warriors squad in the off-season.

“It would be nice to get a win to start the rebuilding phase for next season. Having taken over in the middle of the season, for me as a head coach was to make sure that we build something,” Bartlett said.

“Hopefully come next season is to continue and strengthen the squad in certain areas to really have a hard push at automatic promotion back to the PSL where this club belongs as a brand and for the city as well.”

Spurs face the Natal Rich Boyz at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday with the intention of avenging their 2-1 defeat in Athlone earlier this season.
