Spurs move three points of the top

Cape Town Spurs have moved within three points of the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship, following their 2-0 win over Uthongathi at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

In what was the first of three back-to-back home fixtures in the league, Spurs welcomed Uthongathi to the Athlone Stadium. The visitors were victorious in their last visit to the Mother City, claiming a 1-0 win back in September 2021.

That said, an 8th minute goal by Boitumelo Radiopane set the tone for the rest of the first-half, as the Urban Warriors looked in the mood from the get go.

Spurs continued to push on following the early lead, with the traveling team holding tight until the latter stages of the encounter. A 90th minute own goal saw Shaun Bartlett’s side secure a 2-0 home victory, moving within three points of the league’s summit.
