Bartlett on All Stars ‘Derby’

In facing All Stars in their latest Motsepe Foundation Championship fixture, Cape Town Spurs coach Shaun Bartlett has said that their opponents will look at the encounter as a ‘derby’ despite being based in Johannesburg.

The Urban Warriors are currently on a run of six consecutive victories at home, as they continue to make Athlone Stadium a fortress in the 2022/23 campaign.

Winning four out of their five league ties, Spurs occupy 4th spot on the table, just three points away from Polokwane City at the top. Speaking ahead to the All Stars game, Bartlett mentioned that his side is fully focused on capitalising on their recent form at home.

“We had a reasonably good game against Uthongathi last time out at home,”  Bartlett said.

“Now we are looking forward to All Stars, I’ve got a feeling and I said to the players as well, even though they’re based in Joburg, for them it’s still a Derby game.

“For us it’s about taking pride in what we have to do and making sure we continue our form at home, which has been pretty good for the last seven games.

“We have to make sure that we let the opponents know that they’re in for a fight.

“Every game we’ve shown so far, we’ve had high energy, high intensity and we’ve shown our desire from the beginning to want to win the games.”
