Urban Warriors extend unbeaten run against Uthongathi

Cape Town Spurs collected three vital points in their latest Motsepe Foundation Championship encounter, recording a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Uthongathi at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Friday afternoon.

In looking to emulate their home form on the road, Spurs showcased their confidence at the Princess Magogo Stadium early on in the tie. Coach Shaun Bartlett’s troops saw most of the ball throughout the first 45 minutes and stroked the ball around with ease.

The majority of the play was conducted inside the Uthongathi half, as the Urban Warriors penned the home team back for prolonged periods in the first half.

Spurs’ pressure paid off on the half-hour mark, as Ashely Cupido made way inside the Uthongathi box on the right hand side of their defence. As he navigated his way in the danger zone, the attacker put the ball into the back of the net with a quality finish down to the goalkeeper’s left.

The second-half presented a number of difficulties for the Urban Warriors as Uthongathi sat tight in defence, while producing numerous goal scoring opportunities in the process.

However, Bartlett and company managed the game well and carved out chances of their own at the other end  of the pitch.  As the referee called time on the encounter, Spurs extended their unbeaten streak to six matches in all competitions.
