Spurs finding solace at home

With TTM being Cape Town Spurs’ latest challenge in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, the Urban Warriors have the chance to extend their unbeaten run at home to 10 games.

In facing JDR Stars in the first home game of the 2022/23 campaign, Spurs suffered a 1-0 loss at the Athlone Stadium. However, coach Shaun Bartlett and company have not looked back since.

The Urban Warriors turned Athlone Stadium into a fortress this season and are currently unbeaten in their last nine games at home. Bartlett aptly described the popular grounds as a ’slaughter house’ and often reiterated the need to win all home matches.

Along with the winning form at Athlone, Spurs recorded seven clean sheets in the previous nine encounters.

Touching on the club’s home record, midfielder Morne Nel mentioned that it is not easy for teams to get a result at the Athlone Stadium.

“It’s not easy for teams coming there (Athlone stadium),” Nel said.

“The fans are saying it’s our graveyard, we have a good run of games there, at home.”
