“Chasing is allowed” – Coach Ernst Middendorp

Following Cape Town Spurs’s 3-1 victory against AmaZulu in the DStv Premiership on Saturday evening, head coach Ernst Middendorp remains optimistic but still admits there’s a lot of work to be done for the team.

The inspiring victory was the second win for the Urban Warriors in the league, but they still find themselves at the bottom of the log with seven points.

“I said it at the beginning that we are chasing something impossible. That’s the reality,” said Middendorp.

“Chasing is allowed and it is what we are doing. But there is no light at the end of the tunnel, not yet.”

Ahead of the Nedbank Cup game against the University of Pretoria, Middendorp also spoke what’s coming up next in terms of coping with the team’s injuries.

“We need these guys, there’s no doubt about it, but everybody needs to step up and do the right stuff,” he said.

As for Boitumelo Radiopane’s return from a long-term injury, the coach said that he was impressed with how the youngster handled playing for 45 minutes.

Middendorp ininitally thought he might’ve had to substitute Radiopane in the early stages of the match since it was a very lengthy spell away from the pitch for him, but says he did well despite not being 100% back to his best.
