Spurs gain well-earned victory against Richards Bay
Cape Town Spurs’ latest match in the DStv Premiership ended in a well-fought 1-0 victory against Richards Bay at the Athlone Stadium on Friday evening.
The win for Spurs lessens the gap on the log with their opponents to five points instead of eight as the team continues to fight hard against possible relegation from the league.
The match was intense with a number of yellow cards having to be produced by the referee early on to slow down play. The Urban Warriors weren’t settled in the first half as Richards Bay looked dangerous, but held their ground to avoid conceding. The first 45 minutes ended goalless.
In the second half, Spurs looked a lot more comfortable on the ball and coach Ernst Middendorp made the necessary changes to go for it all in terms of the attack.
The breakthrough finally came in the 86th minute, when Azola Jalakashe headed home a cross from Gadiel Michael Kamagi.
Celebrations ensued but with four minutes of regular time still to play, the team did well to defend the lead and not get too distracted.
The match ended 1-0 and the Urban Warriors can hold on to a little more hope to play on for a spot in the play-offs.
