Middendorp lauds players for “influential” performance despite circumstances
Following Cape Town Spurs’ 1-1 draw against Golden Arrows at the Mpumalanga Stadium last Saturday, head coach Ernst Middendorp has given the players their flowers for how they controlled the match.
“It was interesting. If you look for a masterclass of influencing a result or a soccer game you have seen it,” he said.
Middendorp felt that the team should have been awarded a penalty in the first half but still showed satisfaction with how the Urban Warriors positioned themselves during the match.
He also highlighted that it’s a pity that the work they had done in terms of quality from pre-season preparations back in January didn’t catapult the team into a higher position in the DStv Premiership.
The Urban Warriors have been relegated, and Middendorp shared that it is an unpleasant experience for him and the players to come to terms with.
“I can’t even describe what the feeling is. You see, you play competitively, you play successful, you play good football and we’re relegated,” Middendorp continued.
“Individually from what I’ve seen and as a collective, it’s painful.”
