Former Spurs defender making waves in football
Since Cape Town Spurs product Rushwin Dortley has joined Kaizer Chiefs, the player has received a ton of recognition for his exploits in the national team.
Dortley was with the Urban Warriors from 2020-2024, and was a crucial player in the team during their season in the DStv (now Betway) Premiership.
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has also received compliments for having a good eye and calling the player up before he made his official move to the Soweto club.
Dortley made his competitive debut for Bafana Bafana in the 2-2 draw against Uganda in the AFCON qualifiers in early September, just before making his first appearance for Amakhosi.
The star was also a popular figure as the second team took part in the 2024 COSAFA Cup which took place from the period of June to July.
The 22-year-old has started in all subsequent qualifiers against South Sudan and back-to-back matches against Congo Brazzaville.
SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt is also a fan of Dortley, revealing that he tried to sign him but could not do so back in 2021 as the club had a transfer ban in place by FIFA.
“I mean, we tried to sign Dortley. I tried to sign him three years ago, I think he’s the best left-side centre-back in South Africa. He’s fantastic. He made the difference against us [in the Carling Knockout Cup],” said Hunt on the “Soccerbeat” YouTube channel.
“He was the best player for them. I mean, he made interceptions, blocks, headers away and he can play.”
Another interesting fact to note is that Dortley is the only representative of Chiefs in the Bafana Bafana fold since he was called up last month.
