Spurs defeated in Rustenburg by Orbit
Cape Town Spurs were defeated 2-0 by Orbit College in the Motsepe Foundation Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Olympia Park Stadium.
Cape Town Spurs went into the game with a mission to win, following their run of games not picking up enough points. The weather conditions were not too hot, so the players were able to put their best foot forward to challenge.
The home team started off by showing their skill but Spurs did well to contain the team from producing any threatening attempts on goal. Asanele Velebayi had an opportunity on goal early in the match but his shot went wide.
A questionable decision took place in the first half as well, as the Orbit goalkeeper handled the ball outside of the box, to bring it in and no action was taken from the linesman or referee.
The game was mostly in the middle of the park, as both sides could not manage to break each other down in the final third towards the end of the half. Spurs had most of the ball possession towards the end as well.
The second half went underway with the Urban Warriors focused on the task at hand, but as the clock ran down, the team began to lose their composure.
Soon after, Siyabulela Mabele gave the hosts the lead in the 77th minute caused by a mistake at the back from Spurs. Orbit doubled their lead through Simphiwe Ndlovu who scored from close range with a tap in four minutes later.
The match ended 2-0 in Rustenburg, with Spurs unable to find a way back into the game due to the two late strikes which gave Orbit the advantage.
