Middendorp has backing from club ahead of Casric Stars clash
Cape Town Spurs’ next assignment in the Motsepe Foundation Championship will be their clash against Casric Stars set to be played at the Athlone Stadium on Friday evening.
Kick-off is at 19h30 CAT.
The Urban Warriors are placed 14th in the National First Division standings, and it is imperative that they obtain all three points in this fixture.
Club chairman Ari Efstathiou is backing head coach Ernst Middendorp to get the team back to their best and to stay for the rest of the season.
Efstathiou highlighted that the team underwent a few changes, including a number of key players departing from the club at the beginning of the 2024/25 campaign.
“There are a couple of factors, but the main factor is we lost the core of the team, starting line-up players, and others, and a couple of loan players who were first-team players,” he explained to KickOff.com.
“But they wanted to play in the PSL. We lost about seven or eight players in total, and that’s the team’s core taken away.
“To be honest, what added to it is that up until now, we don’t have all our attackers back. At one stage, out of fix, we had two, and that was a contributing factor that we went through injuries.”
The chairman added that Middendorp is part of a long-term project and he enjoys working with the youngsters at the club.
“It was difficult for the coach to stay. He had to compromise his family and be away from his wife, but he is dedicated to his job,” Efstathiou concluded.
