High stakes as Spurs challenge Lions

Cape Town Spurs could draw level with Hungry Lions on the Motsepe Foundation Championship table and escape the relegation zone when the two sides face each other at the Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium on Sunday.

Kick-off is at 3pm CAT.

Spurs’ six game unbeaten run came to an end when they lost to the University of Pretoria last week Friday by a single goal, and will be looking to return to their successful run of form at the weekend.

With two games of the season remaining, The Urban Warriors sit 15th on the league table, four points ahead of last place Leruma United. They are tied with Upington City on both points and goal difference, and are also level on points with Venda Football Academy.

Hungry Lions are winless in their last four Motsepe Foundation Championship games after falling 2-1 to Pretoria Callies last Saturday. Lions sit in 12th place on the table, within striking distance of Spurs, who would draw level with Lions should they be victorious on Sunday.

Spurs got the better of Hungry Lions in their previous meeting in September 2024, winning 2-1 thanks to an 86th minute winner from Jarrod Moroole.
