Allie’s experience key as Spurs enter 21st season

Cape Town Spurs star Nazeer Allie is entering his 21st season since he made his first team debut for the Urban Warriors in 20 years ago.

The veteran defender is among the players who have pledged their loyalty to the club, following the team’s relegation to the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League from the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Since being promoted from the esteemed Spurs (then-Ajax Cape Town) academy to the first team two decades ago as a teenager, Allie had gone on to achieve success as a model professional footballer.

Allie made his professional debut in May 2005, one day before his 20th birthday, when he faced the mighty Mamelodi Sundowns at the iconic Athlone Stadium under then-Spurs coach Gordon Igesund.

The Cape Town-born player went on to establish himself as a key player and he tasted success with Spurs, lifting the 2007 Absa Cup (Nedbank Cup) and 2008 Telkom Knockout (Carling Knockout).

After serving his hometown club for 10 years, Allie secured a big move to Gauteng side, Bidvest Wits in 2015, where he enjoyed more success, winning MTN8, Telkom Knockout and most importantly, the PSL Premiership title during his time with the Clever Boys.

A four-year stint with Maritzburg United campaigning in the PSL followed after leaving Wits in 2018, before returning to ‘home’ in 2022 as he rejoined Spurs ahead of the 2022/23 National First Division (NFD) campaign.

The following season, Allie helped the Urban Warriors return to the top-flight after winning the promotional/relegation playoffs in July 2023, thanks to his experience, consistency and dedication in defence.

Coach Nasief Morris will be banking on the experience of players such as Allie, 40, and Jarrod Moroole, 34, in Spurs’ bid to bounce back to professional football in 2026.
