Forever in Our Hearts: Spurs Mourns Adams and Jansen

The Cape Town Spurs family is mourning the profound loss of two cherished former members whose contributions shaped South African football: former academy player Jayden Adams and legendary coach Basil “Puzzy” Jansen.

Our memories of Adams go back to his formative years at the Urban Warriors. As a youngster at Ajax Cape Town (now Cape Town Spurs), he was already showing the immense promise that would define his career.

Described as a quiet and humble individual off the pitch, Adams transformed into a fiercely determined and exceptionally talented player the moment he stepped onto the field, developing into one of South Africa’s most exciting midfield prospects after his move to Stellenbosch FC.

After honing his skills at Stellenbosch, the midfielder secured a high-profile move to Mamelodi Sundowns and only recently fulfilled a dream by representing Bafana Bafana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a feat that brought immense pride to his home city of Cape Town.

We are equally heartbroken by the loss of veteran coach and Cape football giant, Jansen, at the age of 89, a true pillar who remained a devoted supporter and wise counsel to the club right into his later years.

As a former coach of Cape Town Spurs, Jansen remained a devoted supporter and a wise counsel to the club, offering his invaluable advice even in his later years.

In our first season back in the Premier League, Jansen was still sharing his wisdom, urging the team to “persevere with the youngsters” and find the right balance between youth and experience. His passion for Spurs never wavered, and like all of us, he deeply cared about the club’s fortunes.

On behalf of the entire Cape Town Spurs family, we extend our deepest condolences to the Adams and Jansen families, as well as to Jayden’s friends and colleagues at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Jayden’s legacy and Puzzy’s wisdom will continue to inspire future generations at our club.

Rest in peace, Jayden and Puzzy—you will forever be part of the Spurs story.
