Stanley Menzo: Urban Warriors will keep on fighting

Ajax Cape Town head coach Stanley Menzo has admitted that he is concerned by his troops recent run of results, as the Urban Warriors continue their search for a first win of the year.

The Cape side’s winless run was extended this past weekend, as goals from Andrea Fileccia and Brian Onyango secured a 2-1 victory for the Team of Choice at Harry Gwala Stadium. Aubrey Funga’s first goal for the club a mere consolation.

“You [the media] don’t have to get worried, but I’ve got to get worried and as the coach I’ve to get worried and yes we are concerned,” Menzo told the media following the clash.

“If you look at this game I think we were the better team, we had the better chances only we had to score the goals and don’t concede chances and goals like that.

Menzo continued: “I think they had one chance in the first-half [which they scored] and that’s all.

“In the second-half they had two chances and the goal they scored was [from] a set-piece.

Moreover, Menzo underlined that he has the backing of his players as his team now set their sights on overcoming a Highlands Park team equally desperate for a win.

The former Dutch international adding that he will continue to lead the fight as the Urban Warriors aim to escape the difficult situation they currently find themselves in.

“What do you mean they [players] are still on my side? You saw the whole game so didn’t they respond, yes or no? I think they did respond. For me they didn’t play badly but they didn’t play well either,” Menzo stated.

“When you don’t play well don’t give it [the ball] away because we had the chances and don’t give it away so easily.

“I’m worried yes but I’m fighting and I’m a fighter and I’ll keep on fighting.”

Next up for the Urban Warriors is an Absa Premiership clash against the Lions of the North on Wednesday, the 12th of April. Kick-off at Cape Town Stadium is scheduled for 19h30.
