Clever Boys, Urban Warriors battle to 0-0 draw
Bidvest Wits and Ajax Cape Town remain at the wrong end of the Absa Premiership log standings following a goalless stalemate at Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday.
The two teams battled away on a wet evening in Johannesburg, but were unable to find the back of the net as their respective winless runs in the league stretched to four games.
Following a rather cagey opening few minutes, the Clever Boys were the first to conjure a shot at goal as Vincent Pule guided his rasping effort straight at Jody February in the 21st minute.
Tashreeq Morris then tried his luck from range in the 34th minute – hoping that his shot would bounce off the slippery surface and past Darren Keet – but the goalkeeper was up to the task.
No further chances followed in the half as the two teams headed for the tunnel at the break with the scored deadlocked at 0-0.
A similar tempo would ensue following the interval with the first notable chance of the second stanza falling to Mario Booysen in the 74th minute. The towering defender guiding his header straight at Keet from a corner-kick.
Bidvest Wits would then squander a golden chance to hit the front as Amr Gamal guided his attempt wide with the goal at his mercy, the Egyptian miscuing his effort after Reeve Frosler had put it on a plate for the usually clinic striker.
Neither side were able to find the back of the net, as they ultimately shared the spoils in the City of Gold. Frustrating for both teams who end the midweek round of fixtures in the relegation zone.
