Urban Warriors promote six academy graduates
Ajax Cape Town are excited to announce that we have promoted six fresh faces from our youth academy to the club’s first team ahead of the 2020/21 season.
The Urban Warriors have been in limbo since the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic suspended all football related activities and forced South Africa into lockdown three months ago. Ajax Cape Town are currently pegged at first place on the GladAfrica Champions standings, seven points clear of Swallows FC with six games remaining.
While we patiently await a return to football, we are excited to continue the club’s rich history of promoting players to our senior team and Calvin Marlin and his technical team are excited to welcome the following six academy graduates:
Ashley Cupido
Rushwin Dortley
Khaya Mfecane
Chumani Butsaka
Cole Schoeman
Dale Wakefield
We as the Urban Warriors pride ourselves on promoting young talent and it is during tough times like these that we are reminded of the importance of building from within.
There are still no indicators of the way forward regarding the remainder of the 2019/20 season and so we can only hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
First team manager, Thabiso “Shooz” Mekuto said: “We are in testing times right now, so we are lucky that we can turn to our youth department and pull talent into the first team ranks. The reality is that there are huge financial issues in the South African football future so we need to look at reliable youth options going forward.”
