Urban Warriors eyeing revenge against Rovers
Cape Town Spurs will look to build on their first victory of 2022 when they take on Platinum City Rovers in a GladAfrica Championship encounter at Olen Park on Sunday afternoon (3.30pm kick-off).
Shaun Bartlett’s side showed their fighting spirit in midweek as they battled back from two goals down to beat JDR Stars 3-2 in Pretoria, with Tyrique Bartlett, Chumani Butsaka and Gregory Damons all getting on the scoresheet.
It was a fourth point in two games for the Urban Warriors, who played out to a 1-1 draw with Jomo Cosmos in Cape Town a fortnight ago.
Bartlett will be hoping the boys can kick on now after picking up just two points from their first four league matches of the new year following the mid-season break.
The win over the Hammer Boys lifted Spurs up to 11th in the standings on 25 points, six shy of Rovers and a place in the top eight.
The North-West outfit have collected six points from their five outings since the turn of the year, registering two wins and three defeats.
Ashwin Sutton’s charges bounced back from a 2-0 loss to University of Pretoria by beating Cape Town All Stars 2-1 on Tuesday to record their second win in three games.
This will be our third meeting with Rovers, who emerged 3-2 victors after extra time in the Nedbank Cup qualifying round on December 15, while the spoils were shared in the reverse fixture in the league on October 24, which finished goalless.
