Bartlett: Two wins in Venda will put us in contention

With crucial Motsepe Foundation Championship games against TTM and Black Leopards on the horizon, Cape Town Spurs coach Shaun Bartlett has said that maximum points in Venda will put the Urban Warriors in contention for honours.

Spurs hosted Venda Football Academy at Athlone Stadium last week and recorded yet another comeback victory in the league. After nine matches played, the Urban Warriors amassed 15 points and currently occupy 7th spot on the log.

With three games in hand, Spurs will now travel to Venda where they will face TTM and Black Leopards in two consecutive away ties. Speaking ahead of the TTM clash, Bartlett voiced his delight at his side’s ability to overcome adversity.

“Very happy with the result and the performance after the last game,” Bartlett said.

“Obviously having to come back from a goal down, its always very difficult. Our tempo and energy in the first-half was very low and due to the fact that we didn’t play for three weeks.

“The players showed in the second-half what we are capable of doing and that put us in a good stead for the two games coming up.

“Travelling to Venda to go play TTM and Black Leopards will also be very difficult because these are two teams that will use the conditions to their benefit. We got to go there with the same intentions like we showed last Saturday.

“Two wins will put us right up there in contention.”
