Resilient Spurs overcome Hungry Lions
Cape Town Spurs added yet another one to the win column in their most recent Motsepe Foundation Championship clash, bagging maximum points in a 1-0 win against Hungry Lions at the Athlone Stadium on Friday afternoon.
The Urban Warriors went into the tie on the back of a 1-0 win against the University of Pretoria in the the Nedbank Cup, showcasing the same resilience in fighting to the end.
In battling to break the deadlock, Spurs and Hungry Lions headed into the break with the scores tied at 0-0, with all to play for in the subsequent 45.
With late goals being a theme for Spurs all season, Cupido stepped up in the 85th minute to provide the only goal of the game.
The win saw coach Shaun Bartlett’s boys jump into fifth position on the Motsepe Foundation Championship log, as the club continues to work towards a promotion spot.
