Spurs sweep Baroka aside

Cape Town Spurs advanced to the Round of 16 of the Nedbank Cup on Friday afternoon, following a resounding 3-0 win against Baroka FC at the Athlone stadium.

Despite it being deemed as a ‘breather’ from the Motsepe Foundation Championship by coach Shaun Bartlett, the Urban Warriors made sure of achieving their target by making it to the next phase of the popular tournament.

Spurs looked dangerous from the outset and took the game to the visitors from the word go. Despite numerous chances created, the score was tied at 0-0 heading into the break.

Following a positive restart, Therlo Moosa continued his positive showing in front of goal by getting his name on the scoresheet in the 55th minute. Baroka proved to be a tough nut to crack thereafter, however, the Urban Warriors’ pressure paid off during the closing stages of the encounter.

Chumani Butsaka and Collin Ryan rounded off the scoreline in the 88th and 90th minute respectively, as Spurs advanced to the Nedbank Cup Round of 16.
