Ten-man Spurs secure maximum points against Platinum City Rovers

Cape Town Spurs moved to the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship table on Friday afternoon, following a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Platinum City Rovers at Athlone Stadium.

The game commenced at a moderate pace, however, the Urban Warriors were unable to make the most of their goal scoring opportunities in the first 45.

In what was a worrying set-back for coach Shaun Bartlett and his technical staff, Morne Nel received his marching orders at the half-hour mark. However, the Urban Warriors headed into the break unscathed.

Despite being a man down, Spurs sprung to life in the second-half, as goals by Therlo Moosa and Asanele Velebayi ensured the Urban Warriors three crucial points at home. The victory saw Spurs jump to the top of the league table, two points ahead of Polokwane City in second position.
