“One light is on” – says Middendorp after Stellenbosch game
Cape Town Spurs head coach Ernst Middendorp says that he is satisfied with the DStv Premiership draw against Stellenbosch in a press conference after the match.
The match ended 1-1 as the two Cape teams battled it out at the Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday evening in the league.
“To take two points from two away games, nobody expected this. So compliments to each and everybody who was part of the Cape Town Spurs team,” said Middendorp after the match in a press conference.
The Urban Warriors are currently in top-form, winning two matches against AmaZulu and TS Galaxy respectively. The team also managed to take points off of Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch, who are second and third on the log.
The team has won eight points out of 12 in their last few matches, which Middendorp says is an improvement from the team that nobody expected.
Having previously said that he sees “no light at the end of the tunnel” in terms of the team’s fight against relegation, Middendorp commented that there’s now “one light on” in the basement.
The experienced coach says that it’s not possible to expect that the other relegation threatened teams won’t pick up points in the coming weeks and that Spurs need to maintain focused in this period.
“I’ve repeated it again and again that we need to stay humble, work hard and we will in these next three weeks,” said Middendorp.
