Urban Warriors press on to next league fixture

In what could possibly be a crucial fixture in the battle for top-flight survival, Cape Town Spurs now turn their attention to the next fixture in the DStv Premiership. The Urban Warriors will be taking on relegation-threatened Moroka Swallows at the Athlone Stadium. 

Kick-off is at 15:30 CAT on Sunday afternoon.

Swallows are currently third from bottom in the league standings, with a total of 21 points. Spurs are still in 16th place, but are now two points behind second-last placed Richards Bay. A win will be crucial for the Urban Warriors as the team continues their push to avoid relegation.

The team has run into decent form in recent days, grabbing a convincing win against TS Galaxy and taking points off of strong opposition such as Stellenbosch and Orlando Pirates with 1-1 draws respectively.

Although head coach Ernst Middendorp does not want to get too eager with the chances of staying in the DStv Premiership, the coach has expressed satisfaction with how the team is managing to pick up points, despite difficult circumstances.

In reference to the team’s struggle to avoid relegation, Middendorp had previously stated that he saw “no light at the end of the tunnel.” However, he now stated that there is “one light on” in the basement.

The seasoned coach asserts that Spurs must stay focused during this time because it is unrealistic to think that the other relegation-threatened teams won’t pick up points in the upcoming weeks.

“We need to remain humble, work hard, and we will,” Middendorp said.
