Spurs fall short against Swallows

Cape Town Spurs lost 1-0 to Moroka Swallows in the DStv Premiership at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday afternoon. A last minute goal from Gabadinho Mhango unfortunately denied the Urban Warriors at least a point.

The match was an evenly balanced one, with Spurs dominating more especially in the first half. With both teams unable to find the final product to grab the lead, it was a frustrating half as chances from Asenele Velebayi and Katlego Maphathe were not enough for a goal.

The second half had a similar trend as the first, with the opposition making blocks and putting their bodies on the line to keep from conceding. Luke Baartman came off the bench for Spurs and had two headers as chances on goal but both of them went wide.

In the 89th minute, Mhango was clear on goal and finished from inside the box staying on his feet despite being challenged by Urban Warriors defenders. The result sees the four match unbeaten run by the team come to an end in the league.

Spurs’ next fixture will be against Chippa United on 3 April, Wednesday evening at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
