Spurs CEO on Velebayi transfer links

Cape Town Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou has confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs are interested in signing 21-year-old Asanele Velebayi from the club.

The matter has sparked a huge debate in the media, with a number of rumours regarding the potential sale of the player to the Soweto team.

Velebayi has been with the Urban Warriors for the past 11 years, and is one of the most sought-after talents following his impressive form for the team in the South African top-flight.

Speaking to Metro FM’s Sports Night Live With Andile Ncube, Efstathiou confirmed negotiations between the clubs. He said Chiefs failed to meet their requests for the player’s services.

“Yes (Chiefs made an approach to buy Velebayi),” Efstathiou said.

“We priced him fairly. They asked us what are we looking for and we told them and like any other party do, they came back with (a counteroffer) and you either agreed or disagreed. That’s where we are.”

“Since we declined the offer we have heard nothing back, so I can’t say it’s ongoing, no. They know what we asked for. I would say the (offer) wasn’t close to what we were asking,” he said.
