CLUB MESSAGE
We are entering the final week of preparations for the upcoming season , 2024/2025, and ready to get our campaign for promotion up and running. The off season has been rather busy on and off the field.
High on the agenda at the end of the previous season was obviously to debrief, realign and plan forward.
Having finished the second part of the season , beating KAIZER Chiefs on the last day, was a clear indication of the work achieved by our technical team over a short period of time.
Priority for the club was therefore to maintain the technical team for our campaign this season. Although initially , we were unable to achieve this, further negotiations ensued whereby the outcome was positive for all parties concerned.
Immediately thereafter, the management and technical team began planning in earnest to build a squad with the best possible chance of success.
Having worked with our group of players for past 6 months made that task a lot easier than it could otherwise have been. Unfortunately, part of that process was that some players would need to be released and replaced by others. We wished Rushwin Bon voyage on his next challenge on his journey and we are sure he will fly the Cape Town Spurs flag high on behalf of all of us.
Finally, 80% of the squad was assimilated , contracts signed, and pre-season commenced on the 1st of July with the core of the squad in place.
The players were given off season programmes and it was evident on their return that much work had been put in by them over this time. The technical team were surprised at the level of conditioning of the players on returning. The result of all the hard work put in by all during January had laid this foundation for this to happen.
As part of the pre-season, a couple of friendly matches were played against Stellenbosch and City and the boys held their own. Many of our youngsters have made significant progress since been introduced to the pro ranks. However, some are currently in their matric year and the coach has been accommodating the demands on them so as not to interfere in their schooling.
Our full technical team and new player signings will be announced in due course on all our social media platforms. As the transfer window closes on the 20th September, there could still be some changes to our team.
We kick off our season against TUKS on the 25th August away in Pretoria. On the 30th August we are fixtured against Venda at home. Unfortunately, the availability of stadiums for professional football in Cape Town is still a major challenge. We are yet to confirm a stadium for our first home match which is incomprehensible in this day and age, especially after the 2010 World Cup which we all hoped would have put an end to this issue.
We are looking forward to a long and challenging season, but as always, together we will push our boys to the limit and over the finish line ahead of the pack!!!
