Spurs take on Durban City in MFC
As the Urban Warriors continue their pursuit in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, the team is set to take on Durban City at the Chatsworth Stadium on Friday evening.
Kick-off is at 19h30 CAT.
Cape Town Spurs are unbeaten in the league with four matches played, currently in fourth position in the league standings, just one point off of first placed Casric Stars.
Durban City are placed third, with the same amount of points as the Urban Warriors, making this match a crucial early encounter that will count come the end of the season.
With the transfer window now closed, Asanele Velebayi has been named captain of Spurs following the departure of Chumani Butsaka and the player was on target in the team’s last match against Hungry Lions.
CEO Alexi Efstathiou explained to iDiski Times why Velebayi did not make a move to Betway Premiership club Kaizer Chiefs.
“There was interest from three different clubs locally and there was interest from overseas as well but the overseas ones I think were more difficult and more speculative than the local ones,” he said.
“I think the complication in this deal was when someone leaked the fact that we were in talks with Chiefs. Had this not happened, I think this deal would have probably happened and gone a lot smoother.”
“Asanele’s situation blew out of proportion in the media and the waters became muddy for both parties,” Efstathiou concluded.
