Spurs seek to secure safety at home

Cape Town Spurs will look to avoid relegation on the final day of the 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship season when they face champions elect Durban City at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday.

Kick-off is at 3pm CAT.

The Urban Warriors sit 15th on the league table with 30 points and goal difference of minus five after snatching a valuable point away from home against Hungry Lions, courtesy of a 75th minute strike from Luke Baartman last Sunday.

While also on 30 points, Venda sit above Spurs with a goal difference of minus four. If Venda win their fixture against Kruger United at the weekend, then spurs will also need to win and score two more goals than Venda. Should Venda draw, Spurs would need to win and should Venda lose, a draw for Spurs would be enough to secure safety.

Durban City need just one point to secure the title after a dramatic 3-2 win over Black Leopards at the weekend. They are three points above second-place Orbit College who, if Durban City lose, will need to win by a margin of seven goals to secure the title. Durban City need just one point from their matchup with Spurs to be crowned champions.

With the aim to remain in the first division, the Urban Warriors will look to avenge the reverse fixture where Durban City emerged as victors by a single goal to nil in September 2024.
