The secret to playing competitive football at 40 – Allie

Cape Town Spurs captain Nazeer Allie has divulged the secret behind his long and illustrious career, which started just over two decades ago.

At the age of 40, the veteran defender is one of the oldest footballers playing competitive football in South Africa and his career has seen him win several major titles, and reach milestones. 

Allie is a key player in coach Nasief Morris’ squad as they campaign in the 2025/26 ABC Motsepe League Western Cape and he has revealed how Spurs’ academy contributed to his longevity in football 

“Obviously, I take it back to my youth days in the academy, were were brought to do the right things on and off the field,” Allie said. 

“And that required discipline, the way you eat, the way you live your life, the way you keep yourself around others. 

“So, that helped me a lot, hence I am still playing today. So, I still have those morals playing at 40 and giving my best every day, going out and training.” 

Spurs will resume their ABC Motsepe League Western Cape Stream A campaign with a match against Junction Rovers on January 23.

The game is scheduled to be played at the Heideveld Sports Complex.
