Ahmed hands Spurs victory at Rovers

Cape Town Spurs returned to winning ways in the ABC Motsepe League Western Cape Stream A with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Junction Rovers on Friday.

The Urban Warriors secured the three points in their Matchday eight encounter at Heideveld Sports Complex, where the game’s decisive moment arrived late. 

Muhammad Shaakir Ahmed, the 22-year-old, found the net in the 84th minute to clinch the win for the visitors as he continued his good form for Spurs.

This strike marked Ahmed’s second consecutive goal in the league in the Urban Warriors colours, following his impressive effort against Santos FC on January 28.

Under coach Nasief Morris, the triumph propelled Spurs up to sixth position in the standings. 

The Ikamva side now trail the leaders—currently FN Rangers —by 10 points, keeping their title aspirations alive in a competitive division.

Spurs’ next challenge comes on Wednesday with an away fixture against CR Vasco da Gama at Parow Park. 

A positive result there could see the Urban Warriors close the gap further on the pacesetters as the race for the ABC Motsepe League championship intensifies.
