Spurs eye third straight league win

Cape Town Spurs will eye their third straight win in the Motsepe Foundation Championship this weekend when they host Black Leopards at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Coach Shaun Bartlett and his troops have enjoyed playing at Athlone Stadium this season, losing one out of their last nine games on their own patch so far. The above-mentioned defeat dates back to September 18, 2022, where the Urban Warriors recorded a 1-0 loss against JDR Stars in their first home tie of the 2022/23 campaign.

The Urban Warriors are now on an eight-match winning streak at home and have conceded just four goals during this time. Boosted by the form of Ashley Cupido, the attacker is currently the club’s leading goal scorer in the league with 11 efforts to his name.

As it stands, Spurs remain on course for a promotional finish in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Sitting in third spot, the Urban Warriors are three points behind log leaders Polokwane City after 19 games played.

Regarding the travelling outfit, Black Leopards go into the game on a 12-match winless streak in the league and have not won on the road since their 1-0 victory over TTM back in October 2022.
