Ashley Cupido speaks on team form and his own progress
Urban Warriors forward Ashley Cupido has given some insight on his thoughts about the team’s performance lately and his own form. The talented goal scorer featured in Cape Town Spurs’s last match of 2023 against Cape Town City in December.
“I don’t think anyone in the team has had a good run of form lately, especially myself, I could have done more,” he says.
Cupido’s focus is getting back to his best and he thinks it’s only a matter of time before the team starts to find a consistent rhythm again.
He admits that it has been disappointing on his part that he was unable to make a contribution in terms of goals and assists before the end of December, but is keeping a positive outlook going forward.
Ernst Middendorp was appointed head coach of Cape Town Spurs back in November 2023 and Cupido touched on about how it has been adjusting to having a new tactician at the helm.
“Coach Ernst is tough, he’s demanding a lot from us as players and to bring out the best of us,” says Cupido.
“I know what the coach wants and for me as a player, I just have to stay focused when it comes to match day or training and stick to the game plan.”
Cupido stated that his objective for the rest of the season is to score goals and help the team going forward. He also highlighted how important it is to have mental strength when it comes to getting positive results in the PSL.
“We have to believe in ourselves, the team and the coach. Getting here wasn’t easy and staying here is not going to be easy,” he affirmed.
