Middendorp speaks on Mokeke’s debut for Urban Warriors

Thato Mokeke made his debut for Cape Town Spurs over the weekend in the team’s match against Sekhukhune United and coach Ernst Middendorp has spoken about how he will be vital for the team.

The player featured in his first match for the Urban Warriors and was on the pitch for 63 minutes before being substituted for Keagan Buchanan.

The 33-year-old trained with the club since he left fellow DStv Premiership side Cape Town City and Middendorp has stated that he will play a huge part going forward.

“He’s a very qualified player, there’s no doubt about that,” said Middendorp according to FARpost.

“He hasn’t played for five, six months now. We were planning [to play him] for 30 minutes, but good, we got him into the second half, and he will definitely help us in the remaining games.”

“But for such a long time not on the field, you have to be careful not to get an injury or another injury at this moment. We stretched it very much today.”

The Urban Warrior’s next match is an incredibly important one as they’ll face 15th placed Richards Bay on Friday evening at the Athlone Stadium.

“If we don’t win on Friday evening, then you can close the book,” said the Spurs coach.

“That’s the reality. We have to win this game, simple as it is. How you do it doesn’t matter.”
