Player profile: Liam Bern

Liam Bern is a South African professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Cape Town Spurs. He was also part of the squad that represented South Africa at this year’s COSAFA Cup.

Bern signed his first professional contract with Cape Town Spurs in 2022 and he has been a key member of the team since. 

He made 23 appearances for the Urban Warriors across all competitions last season, and he is committed to helping young players develop their careers.

When he first signed his contract, together with Spurs, Bern launched an initiative called “Blikkies and Boots” which aimed to donate boots, balls, equipment, as well as tinned food, cereals and energy bars.

“It has always been a dream of mine to become a professional soccer player,” Bern said. 

“I was privileged to be in an environment that would make my dreams come true. However, I’m well aware that many players did not have the facilities and opportunities as I did.”
