What the current transfer window means for Spurs
Rushwin Dortley, Ashley Cupido and Chumani Butsaka have achieved what all the youth academy players at Cape Town Spurs look to achieve. Look out for these names in future Bafana Bafana teams!
There is an unwritten law at Spurs. Every player that graduates through the club’s academy and beyond, understands not only the sacrifice that they and their parents go through, but also those of the staff and coaches to successfully produce the complete professional.
Through this understanding, the unwritten law is that they must produce the pathway for the next generation of youth players. This is not only in a financial sense, but also for them to be an example to those coming behind them.
They all understand that the club’s purpose, and theirs, converge at the point of transfer. At this point of convergence, the “mission accomplished” signs can go up for both parties.
It is well accepted by all stakeholders at the club that, without this act from both parties, the club’s future will be bleak.
This is why we ask for commitment from our players. We ask that they stay the distance. We ask that they keep the door open for the next 11-year-old to enter the gates at Ikamva.
This transfer window has been a typical example of this commitment from the players and the club. Although challenging at times, with all the speculation in the media, these players stayed true to their commitment and “obligation” to the cause.
They remained focused under very challenging circumstances. However, they believed in what has been inculcated in them over the years. The club will deliver in its own time when all the stars align.
This is the reality of football. From the day when you take your first steps onto the field of play as a child, to the day you enter as a professional player in a stadium, to the day you move on, stay honest and true to the game, never forgetting where you came from. Keep working hard, carry out your obligations and stay true to the demands of an elite athlete, until the next moment in your career arrives.
Forcing the issue never works. Trying to move the process outside its natural evolution will only assist in unnecessary distractions and complications that will seldom award you with the gifts it’s meant to deliver to you.
Football has its own life cycle which is sensitive to human interference. Football has its own way of humbling you. Treat it with the respect it deserves, and it will reward you. Trust in the process of the game, it will deliver!
