Improving Spurs take aim at AmaTuks

Cape Town Spurs will go head-to-head with University of Pretoria in the Motsepe Foundation Championship match at the Athlone Stadium on Friday.

Kick-off is at 19h30.

The Urban Warriors extended their unbeaten run to six league matches when they drew 0-0 with Casric Stars away on 26 April and they have won two of their last six games.

Spurs are placed 14th in the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings – a point above the relegation zone with three matches left in the South African top tier.

A victory over AmaTuks would see coach Ernst Middendorp’s side boost their bid to avoid relegation ahead of their last two matches against Hungry Lions (May 11) and Durban City (May 18).

Meanwhile, University of Pretoria are unbeaten in their last two league matches, having drawn 1-1 with Leruma United away on 26 April and prior to that, they had claimed a win over Casric Stars.

AmaTuks are placed ninth in the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings – seven points above the relegation zone and they need one win to retain their status in the league.

In Head-to-Head, Spurs and AmaTuks have met 22 times across all competitions since 2009.

AmaTuks have the edge in this rivalry, having won eight matches compared to the Urban Warriors’ seven wins, while seven games ended in a draw.

The first round league encounter between the two teams ended in a 0-0 draw in Pretoria in August 2024.
